Rat Infestations - How Do You Know If You Have A Problem?

!±8± Rat Infestations - How Do You Know If You Have A Problem?

Rats, nothing will strike fear in a woman's heart (and many a man's heart) more than a rat in their home. It would seem like it would be easy to identify a rat problem but they can make themselves hard to detect. Sometimes you can not actually see the rats in your home. Even if you can not see them, there are several things that you can look for to identify a rat problem.

The first sign of a rat problem is noise. Rats will make scratching noises that can easily be heard from within walls and attics. Listen for their scratching and rustling noises after dusk when rats are most active. Next, look for rat droppings. You can usually find droppings around food sources like pet dishes. The droppings will be small, capsule shaped, black and glossy. You should also look for rat burrows and nests. You will find burrows in gardens and under places like compost piles. Look for nests around boxes, inside of drawers and near wood piles. A couple of other signs of a rat infestation are grease marks along beams and rafters (caused by a rats greasy fur) and gnawing marks on boxes and wiring. If you have any of these signs, you probably have a rat problem and should contact a professional exterminator.

If you do not have a rat problem, you should think about preventing them. Preventing them mainly involves keeping them from entering your home. To prevent an infestation, keep debris piles away from your home. Piles of debris can serve as homes for rats and mice. Also seal any entrances to your home that are larger than a quarter of an inch. Seal any holes you find with caulk or expanding foam and make sure all of your doors have good weather stripping in place. Following these simple steps should keep your home rat free.

Tips on How to Get Rid of a Mouse Infestation

!±8± Tips on How to Get Rid of a Mouse Infestation

Throughout our life, we may see mice as cute and loving animals. For most part they may be with cartoon characters like Speedy Gonzales, Mighty Mouse and perhaps the most famous one of them all, Mickey Mouse. Rodents are often chosen as pets because they are cute and cuddly. Such pets include white mice, hamsters and Guinea Pigs. However, not all mice are pets, in some cases they are actually pests that bring a lot of misery to home owners.

Mice can bring harmful disease to the people around them. Some mice are disease bearing, carrying disease like Salmonella, Lepto Spirosis, E-coli, Lyme disease and even the harmful Rabies. In fact, mice and rats have been responsible for one of the worst plagues in history, the black plague. The black plague killed thousands of people through the course of the dark ages.

Though the black plague is now over, it does not mean that we are powerless to stop. We have talked to the top Pest Control experts and asked them about practical steps to solve your mice problem.

It is not an easy task to partake on pest control, Experts will tell you that the main reason a mouse would live in your house is because it is a viable food source. Remove that food source and you are halfway to solving your mice problem.

Clean your living area making sure that there are no crumbs or food items out and about. Steam cleaning your kitchen to remove any grease also helps remove the mice from your house. If there is exposed food elsewhere, cover them or place them in airtight containers. Hiding the food will stop attracting mice and will lessen the number of mice in your house.

With the food in the mouse removed the experts explain that the next step is to set traps. The best place to place the traps would be areas where there is mouse activity. Corners and the side of walls make out to be great areas to place traps. There are several traps that you can choose from including sticky traps, and sensitive clamping traps.

Remember to clean your traps regularly to avoid spreading the disease within your home. Remember that when you dispose of the dead mouse place it inside a plastic bad to avoid the decomposing matter from spreading through the air.

If you still have a mice infestation after following these steps then it might just be time to talk to a professional. Cities are home to many pest control experts and consulting one can help rid your house of mice and avoid the disease that they bring.

Rats in Alex.mp4

It's a rat's life in Alex: There's a plague of rats in Alexandra. This overcrowded township has poor facilities of drainage, sewage, waste collection and other infrastructural short-comings that result in unhygienic living conditions. A rat population has taken hold in an urban ecosystem well suited to them and has led to an exponential population growth even giving them a daytime visible presence. Residents say they are seeing more of them as time goes on and they're growing to be bigger and bolder. Worryingly, they have become so bold as to burrow into homes at night and nibble on babies fingers and ears. Rats eat household waste on the streets at night and in the day, live and breed beneath rubble and foundations. Activists of Alexandra set out to create awareness of the problem which resulted in "clean-up day" of the Alex streets (Sept 2010) which included the participation of residents, the Johannesburg municipality, Pikitup, metro police, health officials and more. Their efforts brought the problem to the attention of Mayoral council regional director Lisizwe Ntshinga who has given her support to the activists struggle through a working committee. It combines efforts of housing, urban recovery, water, pikitup and metro police to deal with the problem in an ongoing way. Council officials are operating an ongoing fumigation program and are co-ordinating with health officials who are monitoring the rats for disease. People relate their stories about the "amagundwan ...
